TJS Student Referrals

Referrals Overview

The Joshua School accepts student referrals from Colorado public school districts. TJS does not accept private placement/private pay students.

In order to be referred to The Joshua School, the student must have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) with Separate Setting listed as the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Learn more about the IEP process and LRE by clicking these links!

The TJS Referral Process

Step 1: Your child’s school district submits a referral to The Joshua School.

Step 2: TJS reviews to determine potential fit.

  • If the student might be a good fit for TJS, we'll reach out to schedule an observation.

Step 3: Once we observe, we will offer the student an immediate placement, a spot on our waitlist, or we will decline if we cannot meet the student's needs.

  • If the parent is interested in moving forward with a spot, we will offer a tour.

  • For an immediate placement, we will also provide registration/application paperwork and schedule an intake meeting, as well as a tentative start date. All paperwork must be completed prior to the student starting.

  • For students on our waitlist, we will provide our application paperwork and provide a tentative timeline for intake. We will stay in touch and provide registration information once we've set an anticipated start date.

Referrals, Admissions, and Enrollment FAQ

Are there currently any openings for students?

TJS rarely has openings available. We maintain an active referral list and waitlist to ensure that we fill open spots as soon as possible.

How long is the waitlist?

There is no simple answer to that question. Students are placed at The Joshua School based on their individual profile (for example, age, academic and behavioral needs, and communication modality) and goodness of fit classroom/program with an available seat. For example, we would not place a 20 year old student in a primary-aged classroom.

How do I send a referral for my child or student?

Local Denver/Boulder-area district representatives can submit their referrals through The Joshua School’s District Referral Form. District representatives may reach out to info@joshuaschool.org to request the referral form link if needed; however, this referral form link will not be shared with families or other individuals seeking to refer students outside of a district-facilitated IEP process.

How is tuition paid for students to attend The Joshua School?

The referring school district contracts with The Joshua School and pays tuition for the student. The Joshua School does not provide scholarships or grants and does not accept insurance or private pay tuition.

I’m moving to Denver and want my student to attend The Joshua School. What should I do?

Work with your home school district to evaluate placement option, which may include out-of-district referrals. We encourage you to keep an open mind to learn more about all of the options available to your child in order to find the best fit!

Can I take a tour of The Joshua School?

We do not provide family tours until we have received an official district referral and observed the student to determine whether to offer placement.
