The Joshua School FAQ
Thank you so much for your interest in The Joshua School. We take great pride in what we do here! Below, you will find answers to frequent questions
What is The Joshua School (TJS)?
The Joshua School is a licensed Colorado facility school with three campuses serving about 90 students. We operate under the Colorado Department of Human Services and the Department of Education guidelines. We have one early childhood center and two locations that serve school-age and transition students up to the age of 21.
What does the TJS team look like?
Our student-to-staff ratio is 1:1 due to the significant needs of our students. Our team comprises special education teachers, board-certified behavior analysts, instructional assistants, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists and assistants, and mental health professionals.
What types of students do you serve?
Although Autism is our specialty, we serve students with many types of developmental delays and operate with ABA philosophies.
Are there any current openings for students?
Currently, we do not have any openings, but we maintain a waitlist of district-referred students.
How do I send a referral for my student?
Local Denver Metro area public school districts submit the referrals to TJS. The first step for your family will be to talk to your neighborhood school about the services your student qualifies for. We have great relationships with all area districts; they know precisely the kind of student that will thrive at The Joshua School.
How long is the waitlist?
There is no simple answer to that question. Students are placed at The Joshua School based on their needs and the classroom population where a seat is available. For example, if we have a 20-year-old student waiting the longest and a spot opens in a classroom with students ages 6-10, we would not place the 20-year-old in that group. All placement decisions are made purely based on student needs, current openings, and recommendations from the student’s IEP team.
How is tuition paid for students to attend The Joshua School?
The referring school district pays the tuition for the student and is also responsible for transporting their students to and from The Joshua School. The Joshua School does not take insurance, we do not have scholarships or grants, and private pay is not an option.
I’m moving to Denver and want my student to attend The Joshua School; what do I do?
It will be best to get settled and contact a school in your new neighborhood to inquire about an out-of-district placement. We are a small organization, so openings do not occur frequently. You will want to start those conversations soon.
Can I take a tour of The Joshua School?
We do not offer tours until a student with a district referral is in the beginning stages of the enrollment process.
